An open letter

To whom it may concern

My name is Lisa Dotzauer and I am a post-graduate design student at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, UK. I am writing to you today to ask for your help regarding a personal interest and university project. I am looking for someone who can share personal and professional experiences and offer assistance regarding living and working creatively with vision loss.

I am hoping to gain a better understanding and dismiss misunderstandings and myths that are currently floating around society about blind photographers. Please pardon my somewhat child-like ignorance at this moment as I am not trying to offend, but merely acquire a deeper knowledge.

As part of my MA in Applied Imagination in the Creative Industries, I am starting to investigate waiting as a process and broad stage of being. I’m exploring how a more interactive approach to photography and design could help communication with a wider audience.

Ever since my BA in Three-Dimensional Design, I have had a curiosity towards designing objects and interiors for a more open and engaging society. I have been drawn to designs that include Braille, not as a pure form of communication for visually impaired individuals, but as an interaction tool for everyone who is engaging with the artefact or interior.

My subject interest stems from questions like “Could Braille be the three-dimensional representation of the written and spoken voice and communicate to a wider audience?”, “Can waiting be a more interactive process and form of communication?” and “How can waiting be used as a communication device for inclusion?”.

I am very curious about how we engage with the world around us and would really appreciate and value your opinion about your chosen medium and working process.

I would really value your thoughts regarding this possible sensitive topic, so please get in touch lisa@touchingwetpaint.com and if you have three minutes to spare, please head over to http://svy.mk/re-waiting and fill in the questionnaire.

I would like to thank you for reading this post and I am hoping to hear from you soon!
